My studio
I have an art studio in my home that is well equipped for scratchboard work. A bright light that mimics natural sunlight ensures I have proper lighting. A desktop magnifier light enables me to look closely at the piece as needed for fine detail. I also use framed magnifiers as seen in this photo. An adjustable desk gives me just the right amount of incline to comfortably work. A comfortable chair is a must have.

Bosnia
Another officer and I spent Easter Sunday 1996 bringing treats to kids in a Sarajevo orphanage. This facility was bombed during the war by Serb militias. All of these children lost their families in the war.
East Timor
I deployed to East Timor in 2001 to coordinate humanitarian relief and civic action projects during the USS Boxer ARG/MEU ship visit.
Nepal
I worked with the Royal Nepalese Army for a short time in Kathmandu, Nepal. They were in the middle of a counterinsurgency fight with Maoist rebels and the US offered some training support to the Army.
Israel
I worked on the Joint Staff - State Department Middle East Peace Process Roadmap inspection team in 2008-09.
Gaza Border
This is a fairly common photo but this one is mine from my visit to the Gaza border. These are rockets that landed in the town of Sderot.
Philippines
In 2004 I spent a little time in the Philippines planning civil-military operations for our Joint Special Operations Task Force.

Artist at work
Working on the Janis Joplin piece. Brutus is lying beside me. I always feel some inner peace with him close by. Note the tools in use: desktop magnifying glass with light, #11 blade craft knife in hand, small container of blades, scalpels, erasers, different tipped tools for various effects, drink bottle, and a reference photo of Janis.
